Feb 3.-10. The recording of rest of the solos, the bass and some serious singing...
On tuesday the 3rd, I started finishing the lead guitars. It took a couple of days and I was so relieved when I finally got it wrapped!! I did some great melodies, harmonies and shredding...Here´s the pic of my cab that I promised, it´s got this great "Van Halen" set up of microphones, don´t ask...
Also the keyboard tracks by Mr. Klingenberg were put to place. There´s goin´ to be a little bit of keytar soloing as well....
Then on Friday Mr. Jaan Wessman visited us and did a bass for one song called "Beautiful Piece". He used his fretless bass, so it turned out to be really cool sounding...
Monday was off but on the following day I got a real pleasure to have Mr. Marco Hietala to be a quest vocalist on my record. He´s suberb! It´s amazing to hear his voice in my own, tiny little song..Anyway the song turned out to be a killer! Just wait until you hear it!
So, the rest is now up to mixing and masterin´ and I´m still waiting to hear Mr Kakko´s performance in one song that he´s doing for my album. But I´m sure it will be a killer as well! :-)

Week 3
26.-29. January, Recording the rhythm guitars, clean guitars and some solos...
On monday and tuesday I did the rest of the rhythm guitars. Some songs needed a bit of clean guitars so I did them also. Then on wednesday after a good night sleep I had a vision that some songs need also some acoustic..so I was eager to start to play the leads, but no, first the acoustics..Oh well, eventually I got to play the leads! What a relief...No big pains in the butt, everything is still going smoothly, and I´m happy. Next week I´ll continue finishing the songs and also one very special guest will come and do some serious singing....

Week 2
January 20.-23. Recording the bass and the rhythm guitars.
Mr. Kainulainen came all the way from Norway to pay us a visit. In only 2 days he recorded all the songs (exept 1 song which will have a special guest..) Jari´s style really adds a flavor to the songs, and he really knows how to shred also!!
He uses super cool 6-string basses...
On Friday I got the time to start to record the rhythm guitars. At first we were searching the sound to be right for a moment and tried out different microphones. We ended up using the "Van Halen" set up, a combination of different microphones, don´t ask, I´m not sure what it means, but I will update a picture next week...So, I did "Head Up High", "One Tonight", "The Triumph" and "Fire-Hearted". I recorded the parts twice, so we get this huge stereo feel to the guitars. I took a picture of my amp settings if anyone is interested. In the studio all the effects are addded afterwards, so I didn´t use anything, as you see from the photo, that there´s only a cable between the guitar and amplifier.
More guitar-freaking next week!!

Week 1
January 12.-15. The drum sessions, Phantom Studio, Ylöjärvi Finland.
Last Monday I took my home demos to Phantom Studios in Ylöjärvi. It felt like my demo-dvd would have been somekind of national treasure or something when I drove it 10 km to the studio.:-) kidding.. yep, they are just another bunch of good old rock songs! This will be my third Studio album and this time around the cd won´t be totally instrumental?!
But anyway, I had my home-demos moved to Phantom Studio´s computer. Samu at Phantom Studio built the sessions for my songs to his Pro Tools and we were ready to rock. On Tuesday and Wednesday we recorded the drums with Tomi Ylönen (www.manzana.fi) to the following new E.vil-songs: "The Triumph", "Cruel Groove", "Up To Speed", "Head Up High", "Showstopper" and very special "Japanese bonus track" :-) Then on Thursday Mikko from Apocalyptica (www.apocalyptica.com) visited us and he did an amazing job of recording 6 songs in 1 day!? He´s awesome! The songs were titled "Vision Quest" aka "Supernatural", "Beautiful Piece", "The Last Breath of Love", "Kiss Of rain", "Fire-Hearted" and "One Tonight".
So far everything has worked according to plans and I´m really pleased how the drums turned out to be. I´m really excited and can´t wait for the next week when we start to record the bass with Mr. Kainulainen (www.evergrey.net)!
Keep you posted,
Elias
